Don’t switch your air con off just because summer’s in the rear view mirror❄️

Your air con isn’t just for hot days. It takes moisture out of the air, which makes it one of the quickest ways to clear a misted-up windscreen on a cold, damp morning.

Running it regularly through winter also helps:

✅ Keep the seals and compressor lubricated
✅ Reduce the risk of leaks and costly repairs come spring
✅ Stop musty smells building up

Top tip: run it for around 10 minutes once a week, even in winter. If it’s slow to clear the screen or smells damp, it could be due a check or a re-gas.

Pop in and see us. We’ll have your air con working as it should, whatever the weather.

Today is World Kindness Day, and we’d like to say a big thank you to you 💙

Life doesn’t always come with a clear road ahead. Sometimes all you can do is focus on the next little stretch, and that’s okay.

We spend our days listening to cars and working out what’s wrong before it becomes a bigger problem. People aren’t so different. Talking about how we’re feeling can be hard, but a simple conversation can make a real difference.

✅ Check in on a friend, colleague or family member today
✅ Listen without trying to fix everything
✅ Be kind to yourself if you’re running on empty

If you’re struggling, you don’t have to go it alone. Samaritans are there 24/7 on 116 123, free from any phone.

And if you ever need a hand with your car, we’re here to help. The kettle’s always on if you fancy a chat too. ☕

Tread depth isn’t just a legal box to tick

It’s what keeps your car gripping the road when it’s wet.

Tread is what clears water from under your tyres. As it wears down, that grip drops off fast: research shows the wet braking distance of a tyre worn to the legal limit (1.6mm) can be up to 44% longer than one worn to 3mm.

Quick check you can do yourself: the 20p test. Pop a 20p coin into the main grooves — if you can see the outer band of the coin, your tread is getting low and it’s worth getting checked.

With autumn rain setting in, give us a call or pop in — we’re always happy to help.

Wet Cambelt Replacement: Plan it Around Your Life (Not a Breakdown)

Cambelt work is one of those maintenance jobs that’s far easier when it’s planned. You can choose a convenient date, arrange your travel plans, and avoid the stress of an unexpected issue at the worst possible time.

It also helps you stay in control of costs. Instead of reacting to a problem, you can make a sensible plan based on your vehicle’s age, mileage, and how you use it day-to-day.

If you think your car may be approaching an interval milestone — or you simply want to check where you stand — contact us. We’ll help you understand the next step and get it booked in at a time that works for you.

Your tyres can tell you a lot about the rest of your car 🔍

Uneven wear is often a sign that something else needs attention:
✅ Wear on one edge: wheel alignment (tracking) could be out, often after a pothole or kerb
✅ Wear on both edges: usually underinflated
✅ Wear down the centre: usually overinflated
✅ Patchy or “cupped” wear: worn shock absorbers or suspension parts
✅ Fronts wearing faster than normal: steering components may need a look

Catching it early saves money on new tyres and keeps your car handling the way it should.

We’re always happy to take a look. Call in and we’ll check your tyres, tracking and suspension together.

After a Wet Cambelt Replacement: How to Look After it

Once a wet cambelt has been replaced, most drivers want one thing: confidence that the car is going to be dependable.

A simple, consistent maintenance routine goes a long way. In particular:
– Keep oil services regular and on time
– Deal with oil leaks early (even small ones)
– If the car starts to feel different — noises, warning lights, performance changes — get it checked sooner rather than later

If you’ve had a wet cambelt replacement carried out elsewhere and you’d like peace of mind, we can also carry out a post-repair check and make sure everything looks as it should.

Do you like to plan ahead?

If you hate unexpected disruptions to your travel plans (and your budget), proactive maintenance is the best way to avoid them.

A simple way to stay in control:
✅ Keep an eye on what’s due (service, MOT, tyres, brakes)
✅ Fix the small issues early, before they turn into breakdowns
✅ Set aside a little each month for maintenance so it’s not a nasty surprise

And with the festive season approaching, budgeting for your car now can make the rest of the year a lot less stressful.

Wet Cambelt Replacement: What Else is Worth Doing at the Same Time?

When a wet cambelt replacement is due, it’s often the best time to take care of other items that may be recommended for your engine — simply because access is already there and the vehicle is already in for a major service job.

Depending on the vehicle, this can include things like related belts, seals, gaskets, or other components that are sensible to renew at the same time. It’s not about upselling — it’s about doing the job in a way that helps you avoid repeat labour later.

It can also be a good moment to think about your wider maintenance plan. If you’re keeping the car long-term, doing things properly now can help protect reliability and keep running costs predictable.

If you’d like advice on what’s sensible for your specific vehicle (and what isn’t necessary), contact us.

Your Manufacturer’s Warranty is Maintained with us!

September is one of the busiest months for new car registrations and if you’re replacing your car, we’re still here to help.

Buying new (or thinking about it)? You don’t have to go back to the main dealer for servicing to keep your manufacturer’s warranty.

Your manufacturer’s warranty is maintained with us when your vehicle is serviced to the correct schedule and specification.

So whether it’s your current car or your brand new one, we’re still part of your maintenance process.

Want to chat through what your new car needs and when? Drop us a message and we’ll help you plan it.

Wet Cambelt Quotes: Why Prices Can Look Miles Apart

If you’ve had a few quotes for a wet cambelt replacement and they’re wildly different, it’s usually because the job isn’t being quoted like-for-like.

A wet cambelt replacement isn’t a “one size fits all” service — it can vary depending on the engine design, what access is required, and what the manufacturer recommends replacing at the same time.

Common differences between quotes can include:
– What’s included alongside the belt (some quotes allow for additional components, some don’t)
– How much time is allocated to do the job properly and carry out checks
– The quality of parts used and whether the quote is based on the correct kit for that exact engine
– The final checks carried out before the vehicle is signed off and returned to you

If you want a quote you can trust (and a clear explanation of what’s included), contact us — we’ll talk you through it and give you an accurate price for your vehicle.

🟢🟡🔴 THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE COOLANT! 🔴🟡🟢

Ever popped the bonnet and wondered what’s actually going on with your coolant? Here’s your quick guide 👇

✅ THE GOOD — Bright green, orange, pink or blue, and see-through? Your coolant’s doing exactly what it should: keeping your engine at the perfect temp. Give yourself a pat on the back.

⚠️ THE BAD — Rusty brown or murky? That’s usually just old coolant crying out for a change, or early signs of corrosion in the system. Not an emergency, but don’t ignore it.

🚨 THE UGLY — Milky, frothy, like a strawberry milkshake gone wrong? That’s oil and coolant mixing — and it’s often one of the first signs of a blown head gasket. Other tell-tale signs to watch for:

🔹 White smoke from the exhaust
🔹 Engine overheating for no obvious reason
🔹 Bubbles in the coolant reservoir
🔹 Sweet smell coming from the engine bay
If you’re spotting any of these, don’t wait it out — a head gasket issue can turn into a much bigger (and pricier) repair fast.

👉 Pop in and let us take a look before a small problem becomes an expensive one!

Wet Cambelt Intervals: It’s Not Always Just Mileage

One of the most common misunderstandings we see, is assuming cambelt replacement is only based on mileage. On many vehicles (especially those with wet belts), the service interval can be set by time as well as miles — meaning a low-mileage car can still be due purely because of age.

Why age matters (even if you “hardly drive it”)

A wet belt runs inside the engine oil. Over time, heat cycles, oil condition, short journeys, and infrequent servicing can all contribute to belt deterioration. So even if the odometer looks “safe”, the belt may still be reaching the end of its recommended lifespan.

The risk of leaving it too long

If a cambelt fails, it can cause serious engine damage. With wet belts, deterioration can also lead to debris in the oil system, which can create additional issues beyond the belt itself. In short: it’s not a job you want to gamble on.

What you should do:
– Check both the mileage and the age interval for your specific vehicle
– Make sure the car has had the correct oil and regular servicing (this matters a lot with wet belts)
– If you’re not sure, don’t guess — get it checked

Not sure what applies to your vehicle? Contact us us with your reg and mileage and we’ll advise the right next step.

Emergency Services Day – a big thank you!

To everyone in the emergency services thank you for what you do.

If you rely on your car for shifts, call-outs, school runs, or just getting from A to B, proactive maintenance matters even more.

A few quick checks that help keep you road-ready:

✅ Tyres and brakes
✅ Lights and visibility
✅ Battery health
✅ Wipers and screen wash

If something doesn’t feel right, don’t wait – get it checked early and avoid a breakdown at the worst time.

Autumn prep starts now 🍂

As the mornings get darker and the roads get wetter, a quick check now can save you a headache later.

Our top 5 autumn essentials:

  • Tyre tread and pressures
  • Brakes (especially if you’ve noticed any noise or vibration)
  • Wipers and screen wash
  • Battery health
  • Lights and visibility

If you want peace of mind, book in for a quick check and we’ll help you get ahead of the season.

Warning signs (and the truth: sometimes none)

If a wet belt system is wearing, you might notice symptoms such as:
– Oil pressure warning light
– Engine management light
– Unusual noises
– Rough running or poor performance

But here’s the key point: sometimes there are no obvious symptoms until wear is already advanced.
That’s why the best approach is:
– Servicing on time (or earlier if your usage is mostly short trips)
– Using the correct oil spec
– Having the belt system checked as part of preventative maintenance, especially on engines known to use wet belts

Takeaway: Don’t wait for a warning light to start thinking about it.

Hot weather is hard on your cooling system

Hot weather is hard on your cooling system

When coolant is low or old, your engine can run hotter than it should, which can lead to:
– Temperature gauge creeping up
– Heater not as hot
-Sweet smell under the bonnet

If you’ve noticed any of the above, get it checked sooner rather than later.

We can pressure test the system, check for leaks, and make sure your coolant is at the right strength and level.

The hidden knock-on effect (belt debris + oil pickup)

One of the biggest problems with wet belt wear isn’t just the belt itself
— it’s what happens after the belt starts shedding.
As the belt degrades, tiny particles can break away and circulate in the engine oil. Over time, that debris can contribute to:
– Blocked oil pickup strainers
– Restricted oil flow
– Reduced oil pressure

Low oil pressure is serious because the oil isn’t just lubrication — it also helps protect critical components throughout the engine. If oil flow is restricted, wear can increase quickly.

Takeaway: the risk isn’t always “belt snaps tomorrow” — it can be gradual damage caused by poor oil circulation.

Wet cambelt (belt-in-oil) engines: the quick ‘need to know’ 👇

Some engines run the timing belt inside the engine, lubricated by oil (often called a “wet belt”). It can be quiet and efficient, but if the belt starts to break down it can contaminate the oil and cause serious engine damage.

What to watch for:

  • Oil warning light or low oil pressure warnings
  • Rattling/ticking from the engine
  • Rough running or loss of power
  • Service history gaps (wrong oil or missed oil changes)

Why oil changes matter so much:
Wet belts rely on the correct oil spec and regular oil changes. The wrong oil, extended intervals, or contamination can speed up belt wear.
